Chemical Engineering joke

This incident happened when I was at UMass, Amherst.

I bought a Cafe Latte and started to drink. I realized that it was not properly mixed.

This was the conversation after that.

Vikram: Oh! The coffee is not mixed properly.

Young: I do not understand why chemical engineers always start with the assumption that the system is completely mixed.

Vikram: Because it is the simplest assumption, but never true :).

Religion as I see it

Religion as I see it, is a set of guidelines which gives a platform to lead a good life. Many of the practices in different religions can be given a scientific justification while few of them can be considered as stories to emphasize a point. To elaborate on the latter point, every avatar of Vishnu shows an example of how an ideal person leads his life. These could be a fact or a myth, but they can be directive to lead a good and disciplined life. Religion does not require a god, but it is a useful tool to make people follow some practices for we always fear superiors while take things for granted when we are the boss. In my view religion is a concept devised to form a disciplined society.

Why people turn vegetarian?

Why Vegetarianism?

Today I was pondering over reasons why few people who were brought up non-vegetarian convert to vegetarianism. This youtube video 'Meet your Meat' gave a good reason why they did so. It is from a health and humanitarian stand point that people turn into vegetarians. These animals are grown in the most unhealthy environment and I presume it is not healthy for humans to consume it. I also urge the readers of this blog to see the video which shows the advantages of being a 'Vegan' (Vegans do not eat even milk products).

Good Vegan Diet

Vegans and Vegetarians have to be careful about their diet system because they have to supplement for the protein contents that are available in meat. Nevertheless there are many products which provide different essential nutrition values to our diet. This wikipedia link on vegetarianism contains a catalog of food items with their nutrient contents. It also talks about the advantages of vegetarianism and studies conducted on the same.

What is Religion?

Today one of my friend gave a beautiful explanation on what religion is. According to him, religion a model for the way of living. It is a model similar to the one which science provides us for the physical phenomena. Both these models can fail if they are overused, misused or abused.

Is frisking Dr. A.P.J the Biggest Issue???

Why wouldn't the politicians of India understand that frisking is just a process to ensure security and not to embarrass anyone. The issue of frisking Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam is blown out of proportion by the Indian Politicians and official concerned with it. What was their problem when the former president, who was frisked did not have any problem with it. These politicians should understand that there are lot more serious problem prevailing in this [so called] democratic india and its national pride is in no way insulted by this security check. The Airline officials after expressing their apologies (which in my opinion was already unnecessary) were summoned by the government for their irreverence(that is what they call it). The same level of frustration is not expressed when a woman was stripped in the street in front of a street before the public and the Assistant Sub-Inspector which happened about the same time period, when a terrorist killed people in public and now tries to get away from the death sentence by confessing, when a nun was raped in public and so on.

Politicians should understand that a better India can be made by addressing better issues and not petty issues like this.
